Logo, author website, book cover design, illustration commission and social media images
The Brief
Cary J Hansson asked me to create her Squarespace website as she wanted something easy to maintain. This lead to a logo for her publishing imprint and covers for the short story series using cost effective Shutterstock images.
After being let down by a self-published packaging firm, Cary asked if I could create her book cover for A Midlife Holiday that was inspired by cover designs from Mike Gayle and Marian Keynes.
What Hello Lovely did
I took Cary’s copy and created a website in Squarespace that has a flexible design to accommodate a cover page and details of Cary’s short stories. I also shared details of my contacts so Cary could get her portrait photo taken and set up her newsletter to collect pre-orders.
For her short story series, the aim was to keep these lead magnets cost effective. Using royalty free images from Shutterstock which are more exclusive than free to use library like Unsplash, I created a template design around the titles for a consistent series style.
The Midlife series is novel length. I created a bespoke design for the back cover, spine and front cover design. For the illustration on the front cover, I guided Cary through the briefing stage, selected a short list of illustrators and commissioned artist Amy Lane for the final piece. Once completed, the covers were sent to press with KDP, Ingram Spark and Clays, with mini covers created for Findaway Voices featuring the new logo. This was all adapted to social media assets which were supplied via Canva.
Software: Squarespace, Canva, Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
