Fonts, images and words are part of your story

Design supports storytelling with a tale of its own. Let’s work together on a unique design treatment that allows your content to shine.

I’ve worked on editorial design for United Business Media, Archant Specialist, Teenage Cancer Trust, United Parcels Service, and numerous councils, balancing advertising and creating eye-catching editorial design to complex schedules.

How can I help?

Does this sound like you?

“I’m worried I’ll get the wrong type of paper or the colours won’t look right when I get them back. Last time, I spent ages on the phone and my computer trying to fix errors with the printer.”

“I have the text and the images but when I put it into Word/Pages/Corel Draw it looks awful. The images look blurred and I can’t use my brand font and it doesn’t look as good as the competition.”

“I want a professional brochure design that I can be proud of with a branded cover, nice layout inside, like something one of the big agencies would have created. Can you do that for me?”

Imagine If You Could…

  • Have a reliable set of files that you can distribute in a way that works for your audience.

  • A beautiful print, eBook or digital design that’s bespoke to your project and right for your readers

  • A gorgeous cover with illustrations or images which are copyright cleared so there’s no problem with permission.

  • A creative service that could build your branding, create your website and the print or newsletter communication.

  • Guidance on the production and workflow so your project hits the milestones that it needs to.

  • Access to the design files on payment of invoice so you have them for the future if you need them

Editorial and Book Design Services

How does it work?

An outline of the big milestones that will get your project from an idea to a beautiful document in your hand (and yes, you can sniff the ink, I do!) Each project will vary, but these are the three main stages we’ll collaborate on together.

1
Booking
and brief

A Zoom call to check we're a good match and I'll ask you to talk about what you need and make a few notes. You can send me your ideas and we'll agree schedule and prices.

2
Design and
production

Once we've agreed the design points, I'll send over the concept designs for selection. I'll ask for your edited text and images and start to creat. PDF proofs will arrive for you to mark-up.

3
Finalising your
project

Once we reach the final stage, I'll ask you to approve formally, then the print or digital files are supplied to you or the third party. If we need to make alts, then we can talk about this too.

“Without countless such acts of assistance, the book would look very different—as indeed it would without Berenice who was responsible for the design, and who has given me much helpful advice during the process of publication.”

My project doesn’t fit into the package, can you quote?

Yes, of course. There are lots of different printed materials and there’s every chance that I’ve worked on the creation of something similar so please do get in touch, I’ll be delighted to talk to you.

I may need more proofs, is that okay?

Yes, that’s fine. All the packages are for guidance and we can chat about what you need and also explore ways to reduce the proof stages if budget is an issue for you.

Can you rescue a current project or work on an old design?

Yes, providing that you have permission from the previous or current creator to move the project. It will also depend on file types and fonts and if I can access them. We can chat about this more over a discovery call.

Do you edit books or write them?

I don’t, but I have many reliable and qualified contacts who can help you with this. I can recommend them to you once we get started on your project.
